Have you ever thought about writing a book? Of course you have. Everyone has dreamed about being a published author. This is your chance to do something about it.
We're going to write a book in 30 days.
More specifically you'll write a book that will help you attract dream clients to your consulting practice.
This is for consultants, freelancers or agency owners who are ready to step up to the next level in their business.
The goal is to write a book that will help you demonstrate value to your clients and prospects, making it easier for them to find you, and easier for you to target them.
You're welcome to join the challenge and write whatever kind of book you'd like. But I'll be writing a business book, and all of the processes and tips that I share will be tailored for that.
As a consultant, what's the #1 reason that you should write a book?
To establish your authority.
By literally "writing the book" about your area of expertise, you establish your authority in your niche and position yourself as the go-to person for clients that have the problems you solve.
This makes it easier for your ideal customers to come to you, and makes it easier for you to make a credible, targeted pitch to clients that you want to work with.
The challenge itself will start on July 18.
That morning (US Central time) I'll send an email to everyone participating in the challenge. I'll detail the process that I'll be using to pick a topic for my book, and for planning the outline of it.
A few times each week for the following 30 days I'll send emails detailing my process and progress, and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at my book as it develops.
As a participant I hope you'll write back and let me know how you're progressing. I'd especially love to hear about any insights that you have about the process or any tips you discover along the way for getting started or keeping up momentum (especially insights or tips that you don't mind me sharing with the other participants).
Nope. The challenge is purely about the process of planning and writing the book. Feel free to use any tools that you're comfortable with.
The important thing is to focus on writing, and to make sure that you don't get bogged down in the technical issues of typesetting and producing the final deliverable.
Yes, I run Remarq Books which helps people produce books. As a part of the challenge you'll get a free trial to the Remarq Books beta program but you don't have to use it to participate.
I was also a contributing author and the production manager for the Independent Consulting Manual.
And through my work on Remarq Books I've had a front-row seat to the entire writing and production process on multiple books including Hourly Billing is Nuts, The Positioning Manual for Technical Firms, ECommerce Bootcamp, Podcast Outreach, Member Up and more.
Additionaly I have a panel of authors who have agreed to give me feedback that I can share with challenge participants. These are folks who have already seen great success with their books.
At Double Your Freelancing Conf Europe I gave a talk about the benefits that writing a book can have on your consulting practice.
As I was considering what the main take away and call to action from the talk should be, I decided that I wanted it to be something ambitious. I finally settled on the idea of the 30 Day Book Challenge.
So, at the end of the talk I challenged the attendees to join me in writing a book in 30 days.
Gulp.
